Nothing takes viewers out of a great video like delayed audio. Whether you're a YouTuber, filmmaker, or content creator, getting your audio and video in perfect sync is important for a professional feel.
That's why we teamed up with the talented crew at Klara Färdiga Film (KFF) to create a step-by-step video guide on how to sync sound in your video projects. And for those who prefer reading, here’s a written walkthrough to help you master audio sync using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro.
You Don’t Need a Clapperboard to Sync Audio (Seriously)
Clapperboards look cool, but they’re not required. What you really need is a short, sharp sound with a visible point of origin, like a hand clap on camera. This creates a natural point that’s easy to sync in post-production.
How to Sync Audio and Video Manually
- Find the moment in your footage where the sound was made (your hands making contact).
- Look at the audio waveform in your editing software.
- Drag the audio track so the waveform peak matches the visual moment of the clap.
How to Sync Audio Automatically in Adobe Premiere Pro
If you’re using Premiere, here’s a quick and easy method:
- Import your video and external audio.
- Select both the video and audio files, right-click, and choose "Synchronize."
- In the dialog box, select "Audio" and then choose "Mix Down."
- Click OK. Premiere will automatically align the tracks!
That’s it! You’ve got perfectly synced audio with minimal work.
