Creator Talk is a series by Cora Music featuring interviews and conversations with creators about how they work, think, and stay creative behind the scenes.
Burgerdudes has spent over a decade chasing the world’s best burgers. After reviewing more than 900 burgers across 60+ countries, they brought their passion to YouTube. We asked Selin Safer, part of the Burgerdudes team and the editor behind all their videos to hear more about how they built their YouTube channel.
What inspired Burgerdudes to start a YouTube channel
"We’ve been running Burgerdudes for over 10 years and have reviewed over 900 burgers from more than 60 countries! A few years ago, some of us were guests on another YouTube channel and realized right away that we wanted to create our own video content too. We jumped right into it and have been uploading videos regularly ever since. Our drive is simple: we want to help people all over the world find really good burgers and share all our knowledge and passion."
How Burgerdudes keeps their YouTube audience engaged
"By being personal and showing our true selves – we want to feel like friends to our viewers! We also try to be as informative as possible and share unique knowledge that adds value. Our Test Kitchen and our new series 'Signaturburgaren' are examples where we teach people how to build the perfect burger at home."
Why music matters in YouTube videos
"Music is super important! It needs to match the feeling in the video, which becomes extra important since different countries, cities, and restaurants have different vibes. At the same time, we want the music to maintain a consistent thread throughout the content. Sometimes it actually takes longer to find the right songs than it does to edit the video!"
How Selin chooses the right music for Burgerdudes’ content
"I start with the feeling of the video and look for music that enhances it. When we were in Argentina, for example, I wanted happy music that reminded me of tango or reggaeton, while in Malmö I felt that Swedish hip hop fit better."
What Burgerdudes likes about using Cora Music
"The best thing is that you can find songs that people actually recognize!"
Favorite songs and artists from Cora Music
"Oh! That’s really hard to choose. I rarely reuse music, but I’m really looking forward to finding a use for 'Kniven Gaffel Skeden' by Tyskarna från Lund and 'Vill Ha Dej' by Freestyle."
Lessons learned from growing a YouTube channel
"That it takes time and that setbacks are part of the journey – but everything becomes worth it when someone comes up and thanks you for what you’ve created. Those moments are worth their weight in gold!"
Biggest inspirations for Burgerdudes
"George Motz and Alvin Cailan from The Burger Show are big inspirations. Besides that, we’re constantly inspired by all the fantastic – and sometimes less fantastic – burgers we come across around the world. It gives us both more knowledge about the craft and new ideas, both in front of and behind the camera."
